The IES exam is conducted by UPSC, it constitutes of a written exam followed by interview for the personality test. The recruitment of qualified candidates is made under the following categories -
The eligibility criteria is -
1. Physical Criteria - Candidates finally recommended by the commission on the basis of IES exam shall be required to go under medical examination. Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to IES as per guidlines mentioned
2. Nationality - Candidate must be either a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan or a Tibetian refugee (his family) who came over India before 1 Jan 1962 or a person of Indian Origin migrated from other mentioned countries.
3. Education Qualification - Candidate must have obtained a degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as universities.
4. Age Limits - Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st August, of the exam year.
