There are 2 versions of IELTS test, namely, IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Both of them are made up of four sections, that is, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

Every candidate is required to take the same listening and speaking components in both the versions. And the reading and writing components are different for both the versions. The total duration for the IELTS test is 2 hours 45 minutes. The listening, reading and writing tests are of 2 hours and 30 minutes in duration and the conducted on the same day one after the other, without any breaks in between them while speaking test may be taken on the same day or within 7 days before or after the IELTS test.
