The word "median" literally means the middle, so the term median package (salary) refers to the package that—if you list in numerical order all the packages for every individual placed—falls in the middle of the list of packages. Half the individuals on that list earns less than the median and half earns more. It is not the same as the average package, which is the figure you get when you add all of the packages together and divide it by the number of people placed.
