If you are enquiring regarding NIT, Calicut then the cut off rank or closing rank will be different for each branch and category. And it is also different for candidates belonging to home state and other state. Here is the link where you can check the previous year cut off for NIT, Calicut for each branch

Considering the previous year cut off assuming that you belong to general category you need to secure a rank below 20000 if you belong to other state, to secure such rank you need to score minimum 96-98 percentile or above and if you are home state candidate then your overall rank should be below 40000, to secure such rank you need to score minimum 95-97 percentile or above. Cut off changes every year depending on the number of candidates appeared difficulty level of examination and number of seats available etc.
