narrow down on a few colleges: apply to at least six colleges to increase your chances - two top-tier universities, two good universities that are not the top ones, but still good and two average universities that will be your safe options in the worst case scenario;
- start working on your application and your resume at least one year before applying - start planning the activities, extracurriculars, projects, competitions etc. as early as you can;
- research your university and program - you can google and check what are the average SAT scores, find out what your university and your specific program are looking for in students and tailor your application to that specific program;
- focus on your strengths and be creative - tailor your essays and applications to show you in the best light; after required test scores, admissions committee focus most on a student resume which should show 12-20 hours of weekly extracurricular involvement in activities;
