What is the process of admission in Harvard Medical School?
Dear aspirant....!!
Harvard Medical School is ranked number one in research so if you want to be accepted, you need to be amazing. You need to be the best in your class. You need to work the hardest and care the most. Harvard describes their students as “self-motivated, visionary in their ambition, and compassionate in their approach to the art of healing.” It is very difficult to get accepted into Harvard Medical School, but I have broken it down into three different parts of your application: your numbers, your extracurriculars, and your essays.
- Your numbers: Your GPA and MCAT score are extremely important when applying to medical school. The average MCAT score for Harvard students is a 518, which is roughly a 36.16 on the old MCAT scoring system. To get your foot into the door at these top schools, you need at least a 515+; if you want to increase your chances, you should aim for a 530. You also need an incredible undergraduate GPA. The median undergrad GPA for Harvard is a 3.9. Showing dedication to your academics is critical for admission at Harvard Medical School.
- Your extracurriculars: If you want to get into Harvard, you also have to have stellar extracurriculars. Along with finishing all pre-med requirements, you need to do amazing research. This research can be clinical or lab, but it will stand out the most if it’s published in a scientific magazine. You also need to do volunteer work to show that you have an inherent drive to help people. Becoming a teaching assistant or tutor in college is also an important extracurricular, as medical schools want to see that you have had teaching experiences. Lastly, you need to have some clinical experience, such as working in a hospital, being an EMT, or shadowing a doctor. Top medical schools look for these experiences in their applicant pools.
- Your essays: Both your scores and your extracurriculars are extremely important, but your personal statement might help you stand out the most. Admissions committees see thousands of applicants with perfect scores and stand out extracurriculars, but your essays and letters of recommendations are where you can show your uniqueness.
If you clear all these three factors with good scores and if you are lucky enough you will be call for an interview. Prepare very well for it because interview is also not very easy to crack.
Hope your query is solved!
