You have asked an excellent question, your category rank can seem trivial but it is very important. Your category rank is your rank among the students of your category fir example, if you are a general student, your category rank will be among other general students.
Also it plays a crucial role in neet counselling if you are not of general category, but if you belong to reserved category, your seat will be allotted using your category rank.
