The basic pay scale of an assistant archaeologist employed with the archaeological survey of India is between Rs.9,000 and Rs.15,000 including other allowances. The promotion is based upon the performance. The salary scale of director general varies between Rs.25,000 and Rs.30,000. The minimum pay scale of archeologists working in colleges and universities is around 16,000 to 20,000. A doctoral degree in this field entitles one to reach higher pay scale and it is a must for rise in this career. The initial pay scale in private sectors will be much higher comparing to government sector. The remuneration with time and experience expands to the advantage of archaeologists.
