Indian Engineering Service job is more about Respect rather than Money. After clearing IES exam your starting salary would be 45,000- 60,000 per month. Your salary will increase and will go upto 1,00,000 within few years. Through IES exams different streams of the Engineers will get jobs.

IES or Indian Engineering Services are the civil services that are appointed so as to accomplish technical and managerial functions for the Indian Government. The salary structure depends on different posts as well as promotions. There are several stages starting from an Assitant Executive Engineer and the final promotion after 34 years of experience will make you the Managing Director. So,the salary that starts off with 40,000 or something gradually increases to become more than a lakh pe month. Plus,there are several perks of government job.

There is a difference between salaries before and after the 7th Pay Commission. Earlier, the net in-hand salary was INR 42,000 but now the approximate in-hand salary has become INR 55, 135.
Detailed salary structure-
Basic Salary: INR 15600 INR 39100
Grade Pay: INR 5400
Net Salary: INR 21000
DA (Dearness Allowances): 113% of net salary i.e. 113% of INR 21000 equals to INR 23730
HRA: 30% of Net Salary + DA i.e. 30% of INR (21000 + 23730) equals to INR 13419
Transport Allowance: INR 6600 (for type 1 cities)
Gross Salary: INR 64,749 (Addition of the above)
