what is the scope of BDS? is it better than engineering
Dear Candidate,
BDS is one of the most popular and designated degree of dentists (doctors). The BDS (Bachelor Of Dental Surgery) is the only educational and professional programme of dental surgery in India. It is equivalent to the MBBS and owes the "DR"domain. In the medical educational field, it is the second choice of the students after the MBBS course.
In this course, the students are taught about the denture, dental problems and surgery. It is also a good job oriented degree programmes and various opportunities are available in the hospital, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing industries.
The students, who have passed the 10+2 examination with Science stream and have had Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English in 12 th stream, may go for the BDS course.
It is the course which will be having hands on training in the field of dentistry for the duration of five years. The students will get the chance to interact with the patient and will get the practical knowledge of the diseases.
The students have to score minimum 50% marks ( 40% in the case of reserved category ) in plus two and have to appear for an entrance examination conducted by the respective authorities.
There are plenty of good jobs & higher study opportunities available after getting the degree in dentistry as a doctor. It is the professional field with 100% placement.
The job profile for the BDS may be as following.
Dentist,Dental surgeon,Endodontic,Oral surgeon,Orthodontics,Pedodontics,Periodontics.
Teaching is also the best platform after completing BDS.
Both engineering and BDS are very strong course and degree. It's upto your interest where you are willing to pursue your career.
Hope you got your answer.
Thank you
Hi,
You are trying to compare two things that are totally different from each other. Considering the scope in BDS, I'll tell you that there are good job opportunities in dentistry. If you are doing MDS then it's a plus point for you. You can have a govt job along with your clinic. That way you may earn a really handsome amount.
Considering engineering, there are higher job opportunities in almost any fields. But the salary may not be that higher as in BDS.
So both are different. Go for the one which you think is suitable for you.
Hello Aspirant,
BDS and engineering are different fields which cannot be compared like which is better or which is greater . Both are unique in their own way having pros and cons like any other profession.
Just for better understanding :
DURATION BDS - 4 Years of academics + 1 year of rotatory internship= 5 years
Engineering - 4 years
FEES- They are almost equal govt seat less fees n private/ in lakhs it varies from college to college and branch to branch( engineering branches)
DIFFICULTY- Both needs lot to hard work n determination to deal with viva , practicals , internals, externals, University exams
JOB OPPORTUNITIES- Nowadays both the fields are saturated job opportunities are less but the number of graduates are increasing . But after BDS you can start your own clinic . So in case of job opportunities BDS has upper hand .
COLLEGE LIFE: It depends on you how you can balance between study and fun. Both the colleges have college fests, extra curricular activities, sports , etc
WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE?
I was in the same situation confused between engineering and bds but I choose bds because I was always interested in medical field and if you are someone who like maths ,physics you can choose engineering because I don't like maths so I choose bds silly but true .. ( n I didn't get mbbs seat ) so I choose bds which I am proud of.
Lastly it totally depends on you which course you prefer which one you are interested don't choose any course because of your parents ,friends or any other person n don't regret in future . Don't choose BDS just for the prefix of Dr. because you have to earn it with lot of effort and determination . Choose wisely
