The exam will have two compulsory papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both the papers will be of 3 hours each.
Both the papers will have three sections- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Questions asked in the exam will be multiple choice questions, questions with more than one answer, numerical value questions, integer digit answers and matching type questions.
As per the JEE Advanced exam pattern, candidates will be awarded full marks, partial marks, zero marks as per the answers given by the candidates.
There will be negative marking for some questions.
Total no. of questions (54 questions) remains same as last year however total marks of Paper-2 has changed from 186 marks in 2019 to 198 marks this year.

See there is no fixed maximum number of marks because it can vary depending upon difficulty level of paper which is decided every year by different IITs, for e.g. this year IIT Delhi conducted the JEE-Advance paper for total marks of 306 but in 2019 it was 372. If you are preparing for JEE-Advance 2021 or for upcoming years then you should take a note of this, you should secure your rank under 7,000 for getting seat in top IITs with General category. Also note that there are sectional cut-offs in JEE-Advance which a candidate needs to clear in order to become eligible for admission in any institution through JEE-Advance score.
