The Civil Services Exam (CSE) is a national level competitive examination held in India by the (UPSC) for the recruitment to the posts civil services in the Indian government.
The yearly calendar is published by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The UPSC Calendar lists all of the test dates, as well as the date of announcement, the deadline for submitting applications, and the length of the exam. Aspirants should always keep an eye on the UPSC exam calendar. It is also recommended that you download and print the UPSC Calendar for future reference.
The test is usually broken into two sections. A preliminary test with objective style questions is administered first. A large number of applicants are screened here. Then, for the qualified students, a major test with essay style questions will be administered, following which candidates will be chosen based on an interview.
Exam Pattern
Prelims-
Two papers with objective type questions make up the preliminary examination. Both papers are worth 200 points and are solely used as a screening exam. CSAT is the Paper-II of the Preliminary Exam, and to qualify for the Mains, a candidate must have a minimum score of 33%. (written). Prelims Paper I focuses on current affairs, whereas Paper II, or CSAT, is an aptitude exam.
Mains-
Candidates who pass the preliminary test are invited to take the main exam, and based on their performance in the main exam, they will be invited to an interview. The total marks from the main test and the interview are added together to generate the final score.Due to the complexity of the test and the importance of the civil service posts, the pass rate is extremely low. The UPSC is held to recruit officers for the departments of IAS, IFS, IDAS, IRS, ITS, and IRAS ,CDS, IPS, IAAS, IRTS.
