Vernalization is the induction of a plant's flowering process by exposure to the prolonged cold of winter, or by an artificial equivalent.
It application are
- In biennial plants the vernalization induces theearly floweringandthe fruit set.
- The flowering is also induced bygrafting the vernalized shoot apexwith that ofthe non-vernalized one.This feature is usedin Horticulture.
- The crop plants of winter varietiescan be converted to that ofspring variety.
- It is one of themethods for crop improvement.
- Vernalization helps in increasing theresistancetofungaldiseases.
- It shortens the vegetative period of the plants. So that thenumber of crops that can be raised in the same land can be increased.

The main applications and benefits of vernalization is that in biennial plants the vernalization induces the early flowering and the fruit set, also flowering is induced by grafting the vernalized shoot apex with that of the non- vernalized one. This feature is used in Horticulture. Thus vernalization plays an important role.
