Hello,

The most basic qualification in order to get into a medical college in India is to clear the common medical entrance exam which is called the NEET exam.

The exam is held annually by NTA(National Testing Agency) and the qualifying details of the NEET exam are mentioned below-

For General/Unreserved category- marks must range anywhere between 701 to 134 .

Minimum percentile required- 50th .

For General PH(Physically handicapped) & OBC/SC/ST- marks must lie anywhere between 133 to 107.

Minimum percentile required- 45th (General PH) and 40th (OBC/SC/ST).

Out of these, every year, >15 lakh students register for this exam for around 272 Government Medical colleges in India which provide approximately 41,388 seats for the students. From the year 2020, AIIMS & JIPMER will also fill their seats through NEET exam score, therefore adding 1205 seats from 15 AIIMS & 200 seats from 2 JIPMER Colleges which makes 1405 additional seats to Admission in Medical college through NEET exam.

Private + Deemed University - 260 Colleges providing 35,540 seats for the students.

Out of these, if you sit for the counselling and then get into a Private/Deemed University, you might have an annual fee of approximately 14-20 lakhs. Again, the fee depends on your score and so, better the score, lesser the fee.

You might also want to know thatin order to participate in Karnataka & Telangana's medical counselling, you are required to register seperately on kea.nic and tsmconline.in respectively. Since the number of private colleges in these states are high, you might end up in a merit-base fee structured private college.

Some of these colleges operate in semi-private & private modes also where you fee depends on your NEET score.

Incase of private/deemed colleges like Bhartiya Vidyapeeth an annual sum of 14-15L is added as your tution fee with seperate hostel &mess fee .

Few admissions through Management quota is also available in all Private/deemed colleges.
