Dear Aspirant,

Regiment is the military's unit. For instance, para regiment or parachute regiment is a unit which consists of para commandos.

Now there are are types of Para commandos.

Paratroopers are elite troupes. They are often confused as the Special forces but they are the only people who can aspire to become para commandos in the future and have to go through extreme conditions to prove their vitality.

Becoming a Paratrooper is voluntary. Some of these enter the regiment just after their training straight after their recruitment. Other transfer their units. The first process for an aspirant includes getting into the Paratroopers (Airborne) Battalions (5, 6, 7). This includes a 3-6 months rigorous probation/selection period with a passing rate of just about 30% or less on average.

They have different levels. There training differs with that. The 1 Para (SF) is trained for mountain warfare, the 9 Para (SF) is trained for jungle warfare and the 10 Para (SF) is trained for desert warfare, & so on.

Para Commandos are Special Forces unit of the Indian Army’s Parachute Regiment. The Indian Para SF (insignia: Balidan) is different from Para battalions (insignia: Shatrujeet) and other commandos. The only similarity between them is that all three forces are commandos.

Hope this helps. All the best!

See the major difference between two are -

Para regiment (Airborne) - These are Elite Forces. PARA (AIRBORNE) operate in large teams and coordinate with other units, as their role involves occupying large areas behind enemy lines. PARA operate in strength and are focused on airborne assault, raids and rear area disruption missions along with providing the spearhead elements of our National Rapid Reaction Capabilities.

Para Commando (SF) - These are designated special forces unit of Indian Army. PARA SF units operate in small assault teams, which work individually behind enemy lines. PARA (SF) units work in small teams and are focused on operations other than war and on strategic reconnaissance, surveillance and target designation and direct action tasks.

Hope it helps!

Both Para battalion and Para SF areCammandos and this is the only similarity between them.
Difference
Parachute SF are trained for Strike multiple times and cause maximum destruction on enemy in Short period and move on.
While Para Battalion are trained to hold on in the ground for a longer time.

The Para SF are usually assigned in with navigation, More destruction etc.
