The selection criteria of the students depends on the rank rather than the percentage of marks you scored. Check your Common Rank listed and compare it with the desired course and institution you want to apply. The well acclaimed NITs would require top ranks according to your category and also depending on the course. The stream and your category is important to estimate the chances of admission.

Checking through this page might help you form a vague idea regarding the rank and your chances compared to that of the previous year opening and closing ranks regarding admission.

Again to have a round off perspective regarding the extreme safe zone in the percentage of marks you scored, if you are of SC/ST category the expected cut off for top NITs may fall between 83> for OBC it may be above 88 and for GENERAL it would be above 94.

On an optimistic note, if your percentile is above 70 and the category wise mark is favourable, you can get into bottom listed NITs by chance and less demandful courses. But it is not assured as the competition and demand is getting higher as the cut off raises every year along with the aspirants and their qualifications.

Thank you, Best wishes!!

Mishti, the minimum percentile for JEE Main is 89 .

Minimum percentage for JEE Advance in each subject is 10.0 . And overall aggregate percent should be at least 35 .

The percent for JEE Advance is acoording to previous years and it can go down this time,

Feel free to ask if you have any more queries.

Hope this helps!

All the best!

Hey Mishti Jain, If you are asking for percentile in JEE Mains then minimum percentile required for NITs, IIITs or any other Government Funding Technical Institute (GFTI) then you need a minimum of 98.5 percentile for Computer Science branch. But you can get other branches at even lower percentiles and for JEE ADVANCED You want to clear JEE  Advance and if you want Computer Science Branch in NIT then you must score within 2000 Rank in JEE Advance.

If you are asking for Boards then the minimum percentage needed there is 75%. Some GFTIs even require less like NSIT, DTU requires only 65% but they want 99 percentile in JEE MAINS.

Hope It helps you

Good Luck

Admission in NITs/IITs depends on your category rank.

For JEE main ---

  • General category marks- >110
  • OBC category marks- > 85-90
  • SC/ST category marks- >60-70
For JEE advance for getting admission in IITs....

  • General category need to score more than 100
  • OBC category for than 85
  • SC/ST more than 65
