Hello,
For different year, NTA keep cutoff for different categories. The candidates have to secure a mark or percentile above it to get qualified in jee main and to appear jee advance. The main aspect here is NTA board keeps a number and that much number of students can only appear jee advance.
In 2019, It was above 2 lakhs but the students who are eligible for jee advance may be above 4-5 lakhs as high number of candidates appear for the exam and cutoff is kept low.
FTY 2020, you have to increase your score almost above 280 to be eligible for JEE advance as the competition is higher you have to try to score this much to be eligible for Jee advance and 280 is near to 90 percentile and there will be around 1lakhs students who have scores a percentile below 90.
High number of candidates makes the competition more tough so you have to prepare accordingly as even you score good and have high percentile you won't be eligible you won't satisfy the selection criteria. You have good enough of time and prepare accordingly.
