Hello,
In heterogeneous catalysis, generally the reactants are gaseous where as catalyst is a solid. The reactant molecules are adsorbed on the surface of the catalyst. As a result, the concentration of the reactant molecules on the surface increases and hence the rate of reaction increases.
One of the reactant molecule fragments on catalyst surface and produces active sites which increase the rate of the reaction.
Thank you.
