Firstly, You should understand the difference that B.Arch and B.Tech  will bring in your career and future.

B.Arch vs B.Tech

B.Arch is a 5yrs course with almost zero campus placements. Only IITs and very few NITs offer campus placement. In IITs campus placement is atleast 75% or more, whereas in NITs it is as low as 5% to 20%. There is no campus placements for b.arch students in state colleges. But hold on, have you ever heard doctors getting placed , a lawyer getting a hefty package and getting his name in d news paper ? No, we don't hear such news and the reason is Architecture just like medicine or law, is a professional course where the coursework teaches us how to be an independent professional Architect and run an architecture firm. There is huge scope for off campus placements, Architects are never unemployed. The initial salary in a small or medium sized Architecture firm is quite low. May be lower than 20k but with time it increases upto 40k in few years. But rarely senior architects stick to any particular firm. They try moving around changing firms and changing the projects they are working in to grow and groom themselves about diversified projects. May be dey worked in a hospital today in some architecture firm and housing project the next month in a different firm. Now coming to higher studies after Architecture, huge scope is there, many courses related to planning and construction management helps us to land up with jobs offering higher packages but problem is we get drifted from core Architecture profession. But we should keep in mind, Architecture profession will never ever satisfy us with the money. The hard work that is implemented and the amount paid for that is quite low in comparison to other professionals, but still the feeling that the building you design will stay firm even after your lifetime is worthy.

Coming to CS, being an alumni of IIT Kharagpur, I have seen my friends from CS department (Masters) closely. They work a lot, knowledgeable about their profession, solves puzzle, they are in demand and yes they do land up with jobs getting packages of 20–30lks. But it's the story of IIT or NITs. What about those thousands of Engineering colleges where lkhs of B.tech CS people are unemployed! Engineering in CS is one of the best courses to get employed with high packages but from where you are studying matters a lot. There are many scribbles in quora where people have expressed their experience of increasing there salary from 3.5lk/PA to 15lk/PA in 5yrs.

In short both the courses have positive and negative side. Stick to the one you feel comfortable and confident. People may suggest “don't think about money right now, you are young, first finish your course” , I would suggest do think about it ( Warren Buffet bought his first stock at the age of 9), money is important but it shouldn't be the only thing that drives your decision.

All the best

Hello Mamata,

It depends on your interest. The subjects in which you are interested you can chose them and can go on with that for your future. If you are interested in planning, designing, construction you can chose B. Arch. If you are interested in science and technology then chose b. Tech.

Hope it helped!

Good Luck.

Hello Mamata,

Greetings. If you're confused whether to choose for btech or b.arch, please go for a course which interests you the most. While B.arch has opportunities in engineering building, environmental planking.but it has far less scope than btech. The salary is not as high when it is compared to latter, and there is a less chance of placements. Think about cons and pros and only then make a decision.

It really depends upon what you want to pursue in life. B.TECH and B.ARCH both are one of the best fields to study.

If you have a better understanding and knowledge about technology you should opt for B.tech or if you have clear understanding in the field of construction you should opt for B.arch.

The job placements in both the fields are much better than other courses.

Check for the contents for both the fields and decide your interest and then check for the entrance exams which you want to give and get good marks and get a admission in well known colleges in India. The college is one of the major factor when it comes for the placements in both the fields.

Hope it helps you.

Dear Mamata,

B.Tech is the course pursued by engineering students. Students who have interest in problem solving, logical thinking, creating new designs and things, etc. have more interest towards B.Tech. Students who study B.Arch pursue Architecture. They have more interest towards drawings, structures, imagination and creativity, etc. Both have very good value both in India and abroad. It all depends on your interest!
