What should be my rank in CAT exam to get admission in renowned MBA Colleges?
You should try to score a high percentile above 99 percentile to get a call from top B Schools. However the calls also give considerable weight to academics and your work experience apart from CAT score.
Getting admission to a college has the following steps:
- CAT Exam
- WAT
- Group Discussions
- Personal Interview
CAT Exam : Applicants have to register and appear to the CAT Exam with minimum 90 %Percentile. Applicant must score minimum of 80 %Percentile in each of the three sections of the CAT Exam.
First of all, there is no rank in CAT exam you get percentile according to your scores in the exam. Percentile indicates that you have scored above this much percentage of students who appeared along with you for the exam.
For MBA there is no fixed minimum score required for any student of any category. It varies from college to college. Better the score, better will be your percentile, better will be the chance to get a call from good b-school and better will be the chance of converting your call.
For top IIMs like IIM A, B and C a general category student needs to have above 99.7+ percentile to get a call for second round of GD and interview. For other old IIMs like IIM K, L and I you need to have above 98+ percentile to get a call and 99.5+ to increase the probability of your conversion. For new IIMs you need to have 95+ percentile to get a call. Other than IIMs for top private colleges like FMS, JBIMS Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, S.P Jain, IIT Mumbai, IIT Delhi etc. you need to have 96+ percentile to get a call and 98+ percentile to increase the probability of conversion. Other than this also there are many other good private colleges and to get admission in these colleges you need to atleast have 90+ percentile in CAT exam.
Remember one more thing that CAT percentile is not alone enough to get a call. Along with this you also need to have a good profile. After the CAT result all the colleges in which you apply including IIMs makes a merit list to call students for second round of interview and WSAT which is made in the basis of your aggregate score and which is based on different parameters such as CAT marks, 10th, 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non-engineer, gender etc. whose weightage vary according to different colleges.
All the best!!
