Hello Dear,
You should divide your time and prepare for both the exams. Almost syllabus are same in both examination. As your parents are right if you qualify in IIT JEE Mains then the standard of colleges in JEE is far better than MHT CET. Although there are 2 more chances of JEE Mains where you can do better. On your 79 percentile your General AIR rank must be between 82249 - 63079. You have not mentioned your category. There is a very less chance that you can get any NIT on your rank. You have not mentioned your home state as you should try for your home state NIT. but as you know cut off depends upon the number of seats available, the difficulty level of paper and number of candidates writing the examination. And, hence varies every year depending on these factors. You can check the rank vs percentile vs marks below:

Hi,
Generally, syllabus for all the the entrance exams for engineering have the same basic syllabus and mainly focuses on Physics, Chemistry and mathematics and thus have a lot of common topics. Since, you preparing for your boards and as well as MHTCET you will be covering majority of the syllabus so, there is no harm in attempting JEE again rather you will have a lot more options to choose from and as your percentile for Feb session was 79 which is a good score you can try it once again as at this point of time the more options you have is better.
I hope this helped you and all the best for your future.
