Greetings Yash!
Hope you're doing great.
Common Admission Test(CAT) is considered to be one of the toughest b-school entrance examinations in India. To enter into IIMs one need to score exceptionally well. The desire percentile should be somewhere 98+ percentile. Admission into IIMs isn't just about to score good marks in CAT. The admission process is divided into three steps: CAT written test, WAT and GD, followed by PI.
Every college has its own criteria for shortlisting students. Some college may give more weightage to academics, whereas there are somewhere admission is dominated by CAT scores. For more details regarding CAT, Admission process follow this link:

Personally speaking, if you belong to general category, Engineering graduate then hurdle to get an IIM call is much greater than anyone who belong to other streams. You should target somewhere close to 99.5+ percentile to get a call from top IIMs(A+B+C). However, that also might not confirm your seats. One needs to have a decent or stellar academic record throughout his/her career i.e 10th,12th and Graduation. If you have average or substandard track record then you need to work harder to find your place.
Wish you all the best! Hope things are clear now, do reach out in the comment section if you need any help.
Have a great weekend ahead!
