Hi Himanshu,

In India and also in many of the countries around the world, a Master of Business Administration is one of the most sought after and prestigious degrees in the management field to stimulate a better post-graduation career. Particularly in India, MBA is synchronous to great pay and fast career growth opportunity. These are the two primary reasons candidate aim for to pursue a management degree.

With every year passing by, the top and average salary offered by different companies that come for placements in the institutes have been steadily and substantially increasing. Also, Placement reports of the institutes don’t leave any opportunity behind in boasting these statistics as these are one of their most important selling points. The package and the prestigious brands serve as diamonds in their placement reports. However, many of the placement reports released by the institutes do not give an overall perspective of salaries offered. These institutes do not show or purposefully hide their lowest packages offered or percentage of students who come under this lower package bracket. In an effort to bring transparency and make these reports reliable, IIM Ahmedabad started ‘Indian Placement Reporting Standards’ (IPRS) and proposed a standardised way of reporting salary and non-salary information. The data submitted will then undergo a third-party audit process with institutes such as CRISIL thus making the placement reports reliable. The purpose of this is to provide a holistic and trustworthy data for aspirants to make right choices. As of now, only 30 MBA colleges have signed up for it and are abiding by it. However only nine of these colleges have furnished their detailed placement reports.

Different colleges publish their placement reports on different dates. For example, if we take IIMs, the top IIMs: IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta concluded their placements in February itself but published their placement statistics in the month of September 2019 because they needed to be audited by IPRS.

The table below provides a snapshot of packages offered by companies in different colleges in 2019, here, the colleges which offer minimum package of 10-12 lakhs is only considered.

Who receives low packages?

Students who are repeating or those who have not been able to perform well in academics are the ones who receive low packages. This might be a debatable topic and different people have their opinion on this. According to my experience, recruiters don’t pay any heed and have no reason to hire you if you haven’t performed well in your academics and extra-curriculars. B-Schools find hard to place such students and at times these students might have to be asked to fill an opt-out form or go for a rolling placement.

All the very best!!

Hello dear student,

the information you have asked for is quite difficult for us to give you  answer regarding that as think logically there are so many colleges University all over India and so many courses of MBA are running in all these universities and colleges. So how can we e estimate which to get the lowest package and how much package. So I can you advise you that if you are pursuing MBA from college then try to be confident during group discussion round be good with aptitude and then when the pi and HR round comes confident and don't be scared of anything. How much package you are going to get rid depends upon how you interview goes. I hope this will helpful to you.

thank you
