what will be the value of x if a point (5, 3) at a distance of 5 units is equidistant from x axis.?

Hi there,

As per distance formula,

D=√(x2-x1) ²+(y2-y1) ²

5=√(5-x) ² + (3-0)

5=√(25+x²-10x+9

On squaring both sides,

25=25+x²-16x+9

x²-10x+9=0

x= (10+-√100-36) /2

x=(10+-√64) /2

x=9, 1 Ans.
