JEE Mains is conducted by CBSE twice in a year from 2019 for admissions to B.Tech/B.E/B.Arch programs offered by various NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs and private colleges. It also serves as the first step for admissions to IITs and is succeded by the JEE Advanced.
As for your question, if you are able to clear JEE Mains with good marks but not advanced then you would be not be able to get admission in institutes that take admissions through JEE Advanced only like IITs, IISER, etc. but would be able to get admission in NITs and other institutes taking admission though JEE Mains.
