Dear Jasmine,

Both the ranks are equally important. You are called in the counselling according to your Common Merit Rank(CMR). Now, if you belong from General category, Category Rank is of no use to you. But if you are eligible for reservation in any category, Category Rank is of utmost importance to you. Because then, you will get preference according to the numbers of vacant seats in your category. Category Rank is vital only for reserved candidates. Hope this clears your doubt!
