Hey Pandi

Thanks for your query. I hope you asked this question because you either aspire or not to pursue engineering. Engineering is important to bring out the developments in country. No factory, no machinery, no device, no buildings can exist without engineering.

Hi,

Engineering is the application of science and math to solve problems. Engineers figure out how things work and find practical uses for scientific discoveries. Scientists and inventors often get the credit for innovations that advance the human condition, but it is engineers who are instrumental in making those innovations available to the world.

Hello,

I dont think it applies specifically to engineers; I do think that the MANY school systems breed creativity out of their best students. Find a 4.0 student, and generally youll find someone that NEVER doodles on a piece of paper, goes free-form on a sketch-pad or electronic musical keyboard. And it gets worse the further they move-up the educational ladder (which, buy the way, is a contraption ALL designed by those that areon the top of it; who therefore see proper education through the myopia that made their position possible).

So, just as musical skill has to be learned, driving and swimming has to be learned, SO TOO DOES Creativity. When the brain of a genius is dissected (eg. Albert Einstein), one does NOT see any increase in the number of grey cells; however one sees a MARKED increase in the number and size of interconnecting nerves. As we know now, such marked increase in nerve innervation can be cultivated, as seen in certain areas of the brain even among veteran city cab drivers (before GPS-mapping I suppose). We also can see young children dancing, and drawing, and creating much more creative than their parents. Creativity requires failure, good scholarship requires almost zero failure. This situation rears its ugly head in PhD programs, and a student is asked: What do youthink?

And the answer is: Wait, Ill have to look that up;no one has ever asked me think.Hmmmm.

At a UCB Tumor Immunology Class, the instructor began by writing three (basic) statements on the board regarding the science. Everyone in the class read this as being is lecture direction (it was), and so all these very intelligent upper-division and grad students wrote down the Statements, and waited for the Tri-part lecture to support (the obvious) statements. Then the (support ) information, citing author and date, began to be revealed. And then he pointed to the first Statement, and said, How can this be true, if this research article is true?

He did this with every statement, demonstrating that something is wrong-

He wasnt pointing to answers, as much as he was pointing towards THINKING and how to re-think about the assumed facts, in the harsh light of reality. That is howalmostALL lectures should be conducted IMHO; evidence presented against (and for) the standard facts, but youre not likely going to find that inEnginnering as Engineering by definition is simply an established tool set for makinga better tool set, or making something else. Since engineers have made it through our standard of education to a rarefied level, then indeed, creative thinking has never been cultivated nor seen as necessary.

Thank you and all the best.

Engineering is one of the career option for the students who opted PCM or science stream in 10+2 board. Engineers develop new things whether it is engine if we go towards Mechanical engineering, or it may be making of softwares if we go towards Computer Science and Engineering, or making new compounds if we go towards Chemical engineering. It depends upon you what branch you want to opt.

Well it is a good question !

If I start explaining, I will lack of space. I am also an engg. Student.

So, in short, Engineering is the application of science and math to solve problems. Engineers figure out how things work and find practical uses for scientific discoveries. Scientists and inventors often get the credit for innovations that advance the human condition, but it is engineers who are instrumental in making those innovations available to the world.

Engineers design, evaluate, develop, test, modify, install, inspect and maintain a wide variety of products and systems. They also recommend and specify materials and processes, supervise manufacturing and construction, conduct failure analysis, provide consulting services and teach engineering courses in colleges and universities.

So, I think you will get my point !
