I think you should give it .i don't know which eligibility criteria (specific) makes you to stop
But by giving jee mains know about its pattern , difficulty level and other as well as if you scored good you can get NITs or other govt. college

You can get some other premium engineering institutions like NITs and many other colleges by just scoring good in JEE Main exam even if you do not have chance to appear in JEE Advanced no worries.
Yes, by giving JEE Advanced a student can get IIT if scored well in JEE Advanced which you will miss as you do have have eligibility for JEE Advanced.
But if you are looking for a good engineering colleges, you must sit for JEE Main exam as this exam is accepted by all the engineering colleges of our country.
