It depends on the University you are affiliated with. Some of universities offer you a eight semester btech course and some other six with the first year, that makes you six semesters plus one year equaling to eight semesters. Even some Institutes offer you trimester programmes but not in undergraduate level yet.

Most probably the semester would be ending around the first week of December for this odd semester for the first years. Provided there is no delay in conducting end term exams for the first semester, the semester would be ending at the usual timing of  6-8 December of that year.  In case of any delay in conducting exams due to any of the reasons, the semester end vacations might be shortened but still, it will be a considerable break. I hope it helps your doubt.
