Hello Aspirant ,
The preparatory course seats are given to those students from SC/ST/PwD category students who did not qualify for regular admission based on the seat vacancy . The seats are usually very limited. Once your are chosen for a preparatory course you will be trained mainly in core subjects like physics, chemistry, maths and english. It is a one year residential program and at the end of the course they will test you and declare whether you passed or failed . If you pass then you will be admitted to the regular B.Tech program .The allocation of discipline in the regular B. Tech in the upcoming academic Session will be made on the basis of the students choice of discipline, seat availability in the respective Course as per IIT-JEE previous year seat allotment ( year of admission to the Preparatory Course) and academic performance of student on the basis of the total marks obtained at the end of the Preparatory Course. Mostly you will get the branch of your choice if you do really well in the course .
All the best
