You can appear for GATE exam when you are in final year of your graduation or after completing your graduation in engineering or Master's in science.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) namely IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee. The entrance exam is held for PG admissions to Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture and Science. GATE is a national level PG engineering entrance examination, offers admissions to M.E./M.Tech/Ph.D at the IITs, NITs, GFTIs and other universities in India, Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and research organizations also recruit on the basis of GATE scores.

1- Candidates who are applying must have completed their Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology or Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in any relevant science subject or must be in the final year of the programme.
2- Candidates who have completed their Bachelor's degree in Architecture or must be in their final year of the programme.
