Where I will stand ? Either I will satisfy or not while doing Mechanical engineering
Hello Aquib,
Mechanical engineering can be called one of the most preferred branches in engineering due to its secure job opportunities in the core companies. There is always a big number of students joining so you always face tough competition. But in this department, you will find very few girls. Even faculty teaching is dominated by men mostly.
The subjects here are Machine design, Thermodynamics, Strength of materials, Material Science, Production technology is not at all a cakewalk to do away with. No particular book can teach you or no one can help you unless you practice and visualize things by yourself.
There are around 45 subjects in the B.tech course along with three labs on an average per semester along with projects and assignments. Once you clear all these smoothly in one go with a good CGPA and learn the subjects well, you are sure to grow as a professional in your field.
After completion of the course, if you are looking for a job in a core manufacturing Unit, you can get into it by either doing Internship with them or from your Colleges if they have placement tie up with them.
You can also apply directly to Core Manufacturing Units both in Private and PSUs. PSUs like BHEL, NTPC, SAIL, ONGC, POWER CORPORATION OF INDIA, hire fresh qualified Engineers as Management Trainee through national level exams either conducted by them or through GATE, provided they are good in the subject, creative, innovative and qualify in the internal examination.
There is another option as well. Working with experienced Contractors who handle project work for reputed companies. They hire fresh engineers and post them in Project sites. The experiences gained here will be very useful in the future but the working hours will be long, the salary will be less.
Today, Companies are not able to get quality Engineers as most of the colleges lack infrastructure, lack the practical knowledge content required to make the students job ready and many engineers do not have good communication skills. Colleges need to develop their curriculum in such a way that they focus in making their students industry ready once they are out with a degree.
Lastly, If you prefer to do higher studies then you can either go with M.E, M.Tech, M.S or MBA.
Therefore, you need to analyse your strengths and weakness and decide accordingly.
Hope it helps!
