JEE main is conducted for admission to b.tech, B.E and B.arch courses in various nits and the engineering colleges in India. It is also conducted to qualify for appearing in JEE advanced. Through JEE advance IITs take the admission in B.E, b tech etc courses.
So if your main aim is IITs you should try for JEE advanced. If not JEE mains exam is enough for you to take admission in the various engeneering institutions in India.

Hello Aspirant, Admission to NIT's, IIIT's, and GFTI's are on the basis of JEE Mains score and JEE Mains is also the eligibility criteria to sit in JEE Advanced. Admission to IIT's are on the basis of JEE Advanced rank,but for giving JEE Advanced you have to qualify JEE Main, last year qualifying percentile of JEE Mains to sit in JEE Advanced are
General Category - 89.75
General EWS - 78.21
Other Backward Caste (OBC) - 74.31
Scheduled Caste - 54.01
Scheduled Tribe - 44.33
PWD category - 0.11
So,you this much percentile in JEE Main to sit in JEE Advanced and JEE Advanced is necessary to get admission in IIT's.

JEE Advanced is mandatory for admission into IITs.
Rest all institutes offer admission based on your JEE Main Scorecard. Even admission into NITs and IIITs is through JEE Main Score.
If you qualify the JEE Main, you can apply for all participating institutes, subject to their cutoff.
