Dear Student,
To become a data scientist, there are various steps, mentioned below :-
1. Complete 10+2 - Students are expected to complete the 10 + 2 successfully by obtaining at least 50 per cent marks from any recognized boards of India in the science stream consisting of physics, chemistry, and mathematics, computer science as compulsory subjects. They also need to study economics and statistics to get a better and clearer understanding of the course.
2. Entrance Examination - Many institutes and colleges undertake admissions examinations. The admissions are received mostly on the basis of the candidates' results in the entrance test. There are also other universities that offer admissions on a merit basis i.e. 10+2 passing marks. The selection criteria may differ in terms of marks and the enrollment procedure from university to university. Popular examinations are :- JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, VITEEE, BITSAT, SRMJEE, etc.
3. Pursuing Bachelor's Degree- You could earn a Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Social sciences, Physical sciences, and Mathematics and Statistics. The most common fields of study are Mathematics and Statistics (32%), followed by Computer Science (19%) and Engineering (16%). A degree in any of these courses will help you with the skills you need to process and analyze big data. Popular degrees are B.Tech., B.Stat. and B.Sc. etc.
4. Post-Bachelor - After completing a bachelor's degree programme, students have many choices to uplift their future careers. Here, you have 2 options :-
Option 1: Having a master's degree skills in data science, you can apply them to a wide range of tech-related career opportunities like data engineering, architectural design, or computer technology. After completion of a bachelor’s degree, students can directly opt for a master's degree in a related field like computer science, information engineering or cybersecurity will prepare you for a data science profession. Data scientists are holding more Ph.D.s than any other profession. Popular masters degree are MTech, MbA, etc.
Option 2: Students can began their work in an entry-level role in the business after their bachelor's degree programme. And then can apply for a master's degree such as MBA or M.Tech. after achieving an experience of some years.
Happy Learning!
Hello
hope you are doing well and safe. With reference to your query, I would glad inform you that their is no fixed degree from which you you can become data scientist . Data scientist is a position in which people apply after several years of experience in software industry . They basically optimize the data to solve the problem . Degrees like BCA,BTECH,BSC in computer science you can persue and learn concepts of machine learning throughly side by side and make strong projects on them .
Hope you found this answer informative. Best wishes for your future
Hi Aspirant,
Data Science curriculum compels you to understand data logically and manipulate and work on them to derive proper outcomes. Now, to be very honest, there is no such degree that can be attributed as the best to become a Data Scientist. There have been people from even non-science background absolutely acing the field.
However, if you want a head start, definitely a science stream will help you. To specify and to answer your question accurately, BSc in Statistics with computer as a minor is the ideal bachelor degree you should be looking for.
All that said, the crowd in Data Science can be seen the most from people pursuing engineering degrees, so that is also a good choice considering the peer group you will be dealing with.
Lastly, I would suggest, if you have already made up your mind to be a Data Scientist, and have still not enrolled for any Bachelor's degree, do try out for universities offering B. Tech in CSE with Data Science as specialization.
