CDS examination is conducted every year twice for recruitment of officers to the defence forces after training at the respective academies (IMA, OTA, INA, AFA)
The exam consists of 3 papers: English, General Awareness and Mathematics. Candidates who opt for OTA are not required to appear in Mathematics paper.
'Pathfinder for CDSE' by Arihant is the most recommended book for CDSE preparation, it covers syllabus of all the 3 papers and previous year papers are also given.
You also need to start reading newspaper daily for hlandling the current affairs section which makes a large oart of the GS paper.
For English you need to revise the basic concepts of class 8-10th grammar.

See, CDS exam is conducted by UPSC and UPSC doesn't asks direct question from so and so book. You will see various books in market with it's cover name " Crack CDS in 30 days".

Just start with NCERT for your GS and RD Sharma for Maths. If you are weak in English then start reading Newspaper daily and you can also wath English Movies with Subtitles.

Do Arihant CDS Pathfinder twice and solve last 5 yrs question papers or go for Arihant CDS solved papers book.

The first step towards preparation for any exam is being acquainted with the syllabus, this will help you know what to read and skip. CDS syllabus consists of following sections with recommended books as  follows:


Elementary Mathetics - You can use any one among Quicker Maths by M Tyra/ Fast Track Arithmetic by Arihant Publications /Quantitative Aptitude by RS Agarwal. The syllabus consists of Arithmetic, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Mensuration,Statisctics.

English - You can refer Wren and Martin, that's the best book for grammar. Word Power Made Easy for Vocabulary building. And, to practice the questions you can use General English by SP Bakshi or any other standard book.

General Knowledge - Reading newspaper on a daily basis is must to keep yourself updated as well as you don't have to mug up all the news at once during examination time, you can choose between The Hindu or The Indian Express, you can also go for Pratiyogita Darpan or monthly compilations provided in various sites in the Internet, for static portion you can useLucent's GK.
