There are many good books for JEE prep. However, your success in the JEE really depends on what you get out of them. So, don’t go chasing the books; select a few of them and do justice to whichever books you finally decide on. Besides, chasing books is a symptom of the ‘Board mindset’ which does not pay dividends in JEE. Please see Board vs JEE Preps for an explanation.
Next, usually, when writers mention books/resources for JEE, they suggest a whole bunch of them. This only causes confusion in the mind of an aspirant. Therefore, I’ll refrain from suggesting all the recommended books for JEE and mention only the bare minimum.
Besides, it is not possible to solve all or most of the recommended books available in the market; it only results in a waste of time which would be better utilized elsewhere. Hence, this is another reason why I’ll suggest only a few books which, if you imbibe well , are sufficient to clear JEE.
Next, the key to doing well in the JEE is to raise your skills to the appropriate levels. Therefore, a student has to begin with a resource at par with his levels and then go on to higher levels. Thus, the student needs to tackle the resources/books mentioned below in the given order. In any case, the following are some of the books useful for JEE prep.
Physics: Coaching class material, HC Verma/Resnick Halliday, Irodov
Chem: Coaching class material/NCERT, Himanshu Pandey for Organic Chem, Prabhat Kumar for Inorganic Chem and P. Bahadur for Physical Chem
Math: There is no standard book. You’ll have to use parts of certain chapters in multiple books. For instance, Loney is recommended for trigo, Berman for calculus, etc. I believe you should ask your coaching class teachers and solve the books recommended by them in addition to the coaching class material.
