As you have asked that which branch is best to get government jobs I would say all of them but the thing is that CSE branch do not have that many options as EC,ME,CE,Chemical branch students have. CSE students can go for PSUs like:

• Bhabha Atomic research Centre(BARC)
• Indian Oil Corporation Limited(IOCL)
• Power System Operation Corporation Ltd.(POSOCO)
• Punjab State Power Corporation Limited(PSPCL)
• West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited(WBSEDCL)

Every branch is very important in the view of gate. The matter is that which branch you want to get or you are interest. As you interested in cse branch then there is a option to qualify gate and join PSUs like BARC, indian oil corporation limited, power system corpation limited.

Yes cse is eligible to get govt jobs.

No branch is the best branch in GATE to get a govt. jobs.Each branch has good amount of competetion.You will have to work hard to get any of the govt. job.But,if you compare then civil has more no. of vacancies every year in INDIA and also civil is somehow a theoritical subjects.So,it may be easy for you.If you are about to start your graduation then please take the branch of your interest.You can earn a lot in private sector also.And yes CSE is eligible for GATE.
