For private jobs ,civil is ahead of chemical but only in India .You must me surprised to know that chemical as well as petroleum is the highest paid job in the world even more than cse.

There is very less competition in chemical as far as job is concerned and being a chemical engineer i assure you that the demand of chemical engineer is going to increase in near future due to issues like pollution,global warming and climate change.

Often student choose fields because if job availability which according to me isn't a good choice made because you determine how employable you make yourself. The number of colleges offering courses in civil engineering are more than college offering chemical engineering. The demand for chemical engineer isn't as much as civil engineers but the pay scale if skilled chemical engineer is more and also the chemical field is more versatile. Selecting civil over mechanical because it has more colleges that offer the same course and more in demand doesn't guarantee you a job in the private sector. If your interest is in the chemistry you're more likely to land yourself a good job at the end of your 4 year course as compared to if you would have taken civil vice versa.

Take time think about both fields and check if you're making the cut off both fields in your preferred college if yes then sit back and try deciding which one you'd enjoy studying and choose that one.

In India, demand for CIVIL branch is more than CHEMICAL branch for private jobs.But choose any branch according to your interest as demand for Chemical branch might also increase in upcoming years.
