as per the cutoff to NITs of the previous years, you have a good chance to secure a seat in some of the NITs, however you are eligible for a seat in branches such as Biotechnology etc.

Speaking in terms of whether to take a lower branch in NIT or to take CSE branch in a private college is a personal decision. You may join any branch like Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Metallurgy in some average NIT like MANIT Bhopal, NIT Jamshedpur, MNIT Jaipur, VNIT or SVNIT Surat, NIT Raipur, NIT Silchar or for that your Home State NIT, which has both good infrastructure, faculty as well as placements. You may even secure some of the Good IIITs or GFTIs.
Most of these NITs gave a great and competitive culture besides providing effective engineering education and opportunities in both the Core and Non Core sector.

I would advise you to improve over the next 2 JEE Main attempts and target anywhere near 99 Percentile for excellent prospects in Counselling at NITs ,IIITs as well as GFTIs.
