Which colleges are good for computor engineering and mechanical engineering
Hello Gargi,
No college is actually good or bad for any branch, it all depends on your expectations, and the parameters on the basis of which you judge the college. An IIT may be the best college in terms of placement opportunities and campus life, but if it is too far from your home, then obviously you will think about the distance factor at least once before joining the college. There are some people who put distance over higher priority than any other factor.
Now assuming you judge a college to be good if it has good placement, then obviously colleges such as the IITs, some NITs, IIITs, and some private colleges are best. The colleges that fall into this category can be thought of as follows:
- All top 10 IITs such as that of Bombay, Roorkee, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras, Delhi, etc.
- Top NITs such as Tiruchirapalli, Warangal, Surathkal, Durgapur, etc.
- top 5 IIITS such as that of Hyderabad, Allahabad, and most of them located around Silicon Valley
- private colleges such as BITS
- Some of the very old government colleges that are well established and have a very good reputation such as Anna University, COEP (Pune).
These can be considered as the best colleges or TIER 1 colleges. Being in any one of them and maintaining a good CGPA, can fetch you a very good placement, and secure your career.
There are some other colleges, that can be considered as the TIER 2 colleges, colleges which fall into this category can be:
- VIT, Vellore
- Manipal Institute of Technology
- SRM, KTR
- Jadavpur University,
- and the best regional colleges,
They will fetch you a good placement, although not the best.
Now coming to the colleges that you haven't heard of, or that those you find roadside, will probably fall into the last tier and should not be considered as long as placement aspect is considered.
But if you judge the college on the basis of practical approach development, life learning lessons, and other abstract qualities that too are developed during the college period, then I would say to join some good private college, because a government college will give you the glimpse of college life, whereas a private college will give you a glimpse of real word. Crowd, and struggling for every mark, just to increase the chances of your placements, and increasing your CGPA, that's all the part of your life in a private college. Colleges such as VIT, MIT, BITS, SRM, KITEE, etc. can be considered in this category.
So that was my way of judging a college,
Overall, all the old, stable NITs can be considered good and worth investing in money and career. You may see the MHRD ranking if you are confused in choosing the college. Please see the average package and the allumni network, before choosing the college.
