In October 2022, India's Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter achieved a significant milestone by using its X-ray spectrometer called 'CLASS' to map the abundance of sodium on the Moon's surface. This was the first time such mapping had been done. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared that the findings from the spectrometer were published in 'The Astrophysical Journal Letters in the last week of September 2022.
