Every branch is unique and has its own pros and cons.

It depends on your wish and your vision for the future (job/ business/ further education/ socio-economic views -wish to remain in India or otherwise wish to live in US/CAN/Europe/Australia etc) .

But considering the various socio-economic factor in 21st century, I propose the ranking of branches as under:

  1. Electrical and allied- The reason i chose this branch as the best branch because it is core engg branch with huge demand in both govt and pvt sector. Job opps are many. PG opps are also good. You can easily switch to IT field. Offers mainly white collar job. Good for both the sexes.
  2. Mechanical/ Auto-mechanics and allied - Same as above but with additional benefit in designing and CNC, automation, robotics etc. This branch also offers brown collar job. Good for Boys. Switching to IT might be difficult.
  3. Chemical - This one is another core branch which many students forget to think about. Best for those who fear maths. Pharma, chemical, petrochemical, cement and what not. This branch is sure shot job provider. Good for both the sexes. But specific branches like food processing, paints etc at graduation level are risky. Consider Chemical as a whole.
  4. Electronics and allied - This is sister branch of Electrical and has lot of scope in IT and Electronics field. Good for girls.
  5. CS & IT - for those who see only IT as the field to grow. Good for girls.
  6. Civil - For those who wish to do job in govt sector, PWD, Civil construction etc. Good branch definitely but smart and good looking girls and boys avoid this branch. Also offers Brown collar job. . Good for both the sexes.

There are many other factors like family occupation, parents liking etc but believe me, choose any branch, if you are focused enough any branch can take you to the pinnacle in your career.

All the courses are good in engineering. You should choose the course according to your interest and passion. If we compare the course then CSE is the most popular course followed by ECE, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and IT.

Branches are not that important what it matters is college. If you are getting admission in top colleges then all the branches have good scope. If you take admission in below average college then good branch is not going to help you. You should focus to get admission in top colleges like IITs and NITs. Always prefer a college with good placements.

All the Best!!
