Hello there

I want to tell you that to become an IAS officer you don't need any specific degree and no any person who qualify UPSC civil services examination are found an edge upon others. Candidates from all the domains give UPSC civil services examination and excel in it.

So totally choose the degree according to your interest as UPSC minimum eligibility criteria is that you must have an undergraduate degree from any recognised University. So don't worry about the domain of the degree just choose wisely in whichever stream you feel interested.

Somehow in many of the articles and on internet you will find that Bachelor in Arts helps candidates to prepare for UPSC civil services examination and this is because most of the syllabus of Bachelor in Arts covers the UPSC civil services examination syllabus and candidates found it somehow helpful. So you can consider this thing also.

For more information about UPSC CSE you can refer this website:

I hope it helps!

Thank you!

Dear student,

I will tell you pros and cons of taking any stream of graduation keeping in  the mind that you have to become an IAS officer.

See, there is no hard and fast rule that you have to choose a particular stream in graduation to be eligible for UPSC, the exam through which you can be an IAS officer. The eligibility for becoming an IAS officer is to have the Bachelor's degree, no matter from which stream it is.

If you take Bachelors of Arts thinking that syllabus are more related to UPSC in this stream then, all the things that you studied till 12th will not be used properly and not only this when you will go to take admission in any recognized University to take BA having Science background then they decrease 5% from your result while making merit list for the selection.

To know about the exam pattern of UPSC exam, you can go through the link below.

I hope that this will help you to choose the stream correctly.

All the every best!!
