Hi there!

Students should select branches in following order :

Your interest > applied college placement record of that branch > overall placement regarding that branch ( offcampus (private + Govt.)

My answer will be placement wise and as per my knowledge, if you wants to study further then you should not focus on these stats, rather go with your interests.

Branches that can be taken:

CS, IT, SE(software) :

job type : mostly Private, Few Govt.

Starting Salary :

min : 3lpa (in companies like Infosys)

Max : around 30–40lpa(in INDIA), this can vary

pointer : companies that give big packages only visit best colleges (IITs, NITs, BITS, DTU, NSIT etc). Rest in all other colleges there will be rarely any company's visit that will offer hefty amount(i.e. > 8-9lpa). Mostly companies like Infosys do visit which don't offer a good salary.

EE, EEE :

job type : both

Starting Salary :

min : 3lpa (in companies like Infosys)

Max : around 17-18 lpa(in MAHARATNA PSU ONLY, private companies don't give big amount of salary)

pointer : PSUs that give big packages only visit best colleges (IITs, NITs, BITS, DTU, NSIT etc). Else mainly you have to appear for GATE, get a good rank( below 400 at least), get MAHARATNA PSUs. There are good no. of Govt. Jobs via GATE and without GATE (like MINIRATNA PSUs which offers around 10lpa) in EE compared to ECE Govt. Jobs.

ECE :

job type : both

Few private (talking about core companies which offer hefty packages like TI, SAMSUNG etc.)

Few Govt. - PSUs has less openings

Starting Salary :

min : 3lpa (in companies like Infosys)

Max : around 17-18 lpa(in MAHARATNA PSU (Govt.), and core companies(private))

pointer : PSUs,Core companies that give big packages only visit best colleges (IITs, NITs, BITS, DTU, NSIT etc). Otherwise go for GATE (few vacancies) for PSUs (with rank < 200 for MAHARATNA), for Core companies with electronics related profiles, apply online on their sites (difficult to get job).

Mechanical, Civil :

job type : both, less private (low salary), more Govt. (better salary)

Starting Salary :

min : 3lpa (in companies like Infosys)

Max : around 17-18 lpa(in MAHARATNA PSU ONLY, private companies don't give big amount of salary)

pointer : PSUs that give big packages only visit best colleges (IITs, NITs, BITS, DTU, NSIT etc). Else mainly you have to appear for GATE, get a good rank( below 500 at least), get MAHARATNA PSUs. There are good no. of Govt. Jobs better than private which offers better salary.

Suggestions :

For tier 1,2 college’s students branchwise

CS/IT/SE - go for it, good no. Of placement with good packages. core electronics companies will also hires you. Less Govt. Jobs.

EE/EEE : mix placement i.e. Non-technical, technical, few coding profile, few PSUs placement(more than ECE). If high package required prepare for psu or electronics core companies.

ECE : student can appear for coding, core electronics , psu, Non-technical companies but there are few vacancies in core electronics and psu and if you want to go for coding then select coding branch (if possible) as it is comparatively harder to become a coder with non-computer branch. Don't select ECE with thinking that you have more options, at the end you have to select one field only.

Me, CE : go for psu for better salary. So prepare for GATE for PSUs as per your college placement record.

tier 3 college : less chances for good salary placement via campus, hard to get job with good salary offcampus

CS/IT/ECE : mostly companies like Infosys (service based with less salary), few other companies with average package 6–7lpa, for better package you have to switch between companies

EE/EEE/ECE/ME/SE : few branch related company will visit, few companies with packages 6-7lpa(considered as good here), no PSUs or big Core company will visit. prepare for GATE seriously (as competition will be tough) for PSUs, otherwise go for non-technical jobs which offers you same around 5-6lpa (except few companies with >10lpa which will only visit tier 1,2 colleges)

CONCLUSION:

Have interest towards any branch, go for it

Otherwise

Belongs to tier 1,2 - want private job - cs/it/se > ece > ee/eee/me/ce

Belongs to tier 1,2 - prefer Govt. technical Jobs(not suggested) - have to prepare for GATE - ee/eee/me/ce > ece > cs/it/se

Belongs to tier 3 - want private job( starting will be with less salary) - cs/it/se (can switch jobs) > ece/ee/eee/me/ce

Belongs to tier 3 - want Govt. Job (suggested) - go for GATE - ee/eee/me/ce > ece > cs/it/se

Hope this answers might help in your choice.
