Which engineering is better in terms of job opportunities and salary? Mechanical Engineering or Electronics and Communication Engineering?
Hello student,
There is nothing like one branch is better or one branch is branch. It all depends on your interest.
But yes, if we talk about market demands then one branch can have edge over others.
Let us do analysis about these two branches.
The study, design, development, building, and testing of mechanical and thermal sensors and devices, such as tools, engines, and machines, is known as mechanical engineering. Careers in mechanical engineering focus on developing technologies that address a wide variety of human requirements.
Let us see the scope of Mechanical engineering first of all.
- Aerospace industry
- Automotive industries
- Defense
- Rail industry
- Thermal plants
- Steel plants
- Robotics industry
- chemical manufacturing plants
Now if we talk about Electronics and communication engineering then, Right now Electronics and Communication Engineering is one the most demanded branch in engineering course field as digitalisation is on the rise in India . You can understand it going through the cutoff for this branch in various colleges, it goes high as many of the students want to pursue.
The best part of this branch is that it is connects hardware to software, so you can learn both the skill of core and circuital and it can increase your scopes.
The things that you have to study in this is mainly that I am listing below.
- Analog Electronics
- Network Theory
- Analog & Digital Communication
- Wireless Communication
- Digital Image Processing
- Microprocessor
- VLSI
- EDC
The fees for this course vary from Rs. 2,50,000 to Rs. 10,00,000 depending upon the college.
After pursuing BTech in ECE, you can work as a engineer who design electronics gadgets and there many other options especially in communication field.
Some of the companies that offers jobs for ECE graduates are below in the list.
- Infosys
- Panasonic
- Samsung
- L&T Infotech
- Sony
- Intel
and many mores.
Now if talk about salary for ECE gradates then the average package ranges from 4 lakh to 6 lakh and there is o limit of highest package, people can get lot if they are really skilled.

I hope it helps you.
All the very best!!
Engineering is a good career choice to begin with and as per your question both are great choices. Mechanical is one of the mother Engineering and ece is though modern day Engineering but has great career opportunities
Ece is has better placement opportunities and a lot of students get good placement in lot of mnc's with great salaries but one thing to consider here that job is not secure. IT companies have a bad reputation for firing their employees and i also think they are not paid their well deserved salaries. Though ece has more job options it has less job security. If you go with ece you will get job easily
In Mechanical engineering jobs are less and you need to a lot of training and get degrees to get decent job but when you get they pay you good salary and one more thing Mechanical engineers can get job in both private and government sectors which naturally gives you better job security where as there is almost zero government jobs available for ece. Thus it provides you better job security but less job opportunities and you need to work very hard
Hope this helps
Best of luck
