Hi Bindu,

Easy or toughness of an entrance exam depends upon the way you prepare for an exam. The toughest exam can be cleared if you make your preparation right and on the other hand, an easiest exam can become tough for you if you have no preparation made for the exam. Having said that, you don’t have to prepare at the same level for all the entrance exams. There are exams that test your skills in the most extreme end and also there are exams that tests your basic knowledge.

For example, if you take CAT, it is an exam that tests your fundamental concepts. You have to be very much clear in your basics and you should be able to apply them in different scenarios. Having prepared for the toughest management entrance exams, CAT, you can always appear in any other entrance exam, without going for extra preparation. This is because the pattern of many of the toughest management entrance exams are similar.
The syllabus of all the entrance exams are similar. The toughness factor is brought in because the institute has got limited number of seats and hence, they want the best percentile of the candidates to represent them. CAT is the toughest because its score is used by legacy IIMs which are the best B-Schools in India. In India, based on MBA aspirant’s feedback, CMAT is the easiest MBA entrance examination. The Common Management Admission Test or CMAT is a national level entrance examination conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Now let us compare various entrance exams with CAT and see the toughness factor of each of them,

CAT Vs XAT
  • CAT is conducted by IIMs and its score is used for 20 IIMs, FMS, IITs’ MBA, MDI, SPJIMR, IMI, IMT and 3000 other MBA colleges
  • XAT is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur and is the MBA entrance test for XLRI, SPJIMR, IMT, XIMB and 150 other MBA colleges
  • One of the notable differences between CAT and XAT syllabus is the varying topics and sections. While Decision Making section and GK section are not available in CAT, but you can find these in XAT exam s separate sections
  • XAT is considered a bit more difficult than CAT exam and hence forming a key difference here
  • Which one is better CAT or XAT?  The answer to this query depends upon your preferences. If you wish to seek admission opportunity in XLRI you should appear in XAT but if your interest is to do MBA from IIMs, you should appear in CAT exam
CAT Vs IIFT
  • CAT is an entrance test for admission to IIMs and IIFT entrance test is the entrance test for admission to MBA (IB) in all the three campuses of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade
  • CAT is computer based while IIFT used to be a paper-based entrance test, but from 2020, it’s going to be a computer-based exam
  • While CAT declares its fixed number of questions before hand, IIFT goes on changing its number of questions every year. As such CAT has a fixed exam pattern and IIFT exam pattern changes each year
  • CAT has fixed marking pattern for correct answer with +3 marks while IIFT marking pattern varies between 0.5 mark to 1 mark for each correct answer
  • CAT offers admission opportunity in 20 IIMs, FMS, MDI, IITs, NITIE, IMI, SPJIMR, JBIMS among others while IIFT entrance exam is institute based and offers admission in IIFT Delhi, Kolkata and Kakinada campuses

CAT Vs CMAT

  • CMAT is conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) while CAT is conducted by IIMs
  • CMAT is not accepted by top institutes such as IIMs, FMS, MDI, IITs, SPJIMR and many others. They accept CAT score
  • CMAT is of low difficulty level exam as compared to CAT exam
  • CMAT has one-fourth of a mark as negative marking while CAT has one-third of a mark as negative marking for wrong answers
  • No candidate in CMAT is disqualified and is eligible for shortlisting, however IIMs shortlist the candidates on the basis of minimum qualifying sectional score

Other private universities exams such as NMAT and SNAP are relatively easier than CAT and have more or less the same syllabus as of CAT. Hence, in most of these entrance exams, if you have studied for CAT, you can easily attempt and strategies your game to clear these exams.

All the very best!!

Hello Bindu

There is no such easy exam for MBA but if you compare with CAT then comparativly SNAP is much easier. It is not like a liquid but still you can get a 95+ if you are well prepared for CAT.

But then there's a catch, the best college under snap is SIBM for which cutoff rises to 99.
