HELLO KEERTHNAPRABA
THANKS FOR ASKING
Every branch is unique and has its own pros and cons.
It depends on your wish and your vision for the future (job/ business/ further education/ socio-economic views -wish to remain in India or otherwise wish to live in US/CAN/Europe/Australia etc). As a real engineering perspective it’s very challenging and interesting. However do not misunderstand the Engineering to what Indian IT industry do.
Engineering is something where you build concepts to solve real life problems using IT Technology however what Indian IT industry does is maintenance, support and development of existing systems at application level and it is not engineering.
But considering the various socio-economic factor in 21st century, I propose the ranking of branches as under:
· Electrical and allied - The reason I chose this branch as the best branch because it is core engineering branch with huge demand in both govt and private sector. Job opportunities are many. PG opportunities are also good. You can easily switch to IT field. Offers mainly white collar job. Good for both the sexes.
· Mechanical/ Auto-mechanics and allied - Same as above but with additional benefit in designing and CNC, automation, robotics etc. This branch also offers brown collar job. Good for Boys. Switching to IT might be difficult.
· Chemical - This one is another core branch which many students forget to think about. Best for those who fear maths. Pharmacy, chemical, petrochemical, cement and what not. This branch is sure shot job provider. Good for both the sexes. But specific branches like food processing, paints etc at graduation level are risky. Consider Chemical as a whole.
· Electronics and allied - This is sister branch of Electrical and has lot of scope in IT and Electronics field. Good for girls.
· CS & IT - for those who see only IT as the field to grow. Good for girls.
· Civil - For those who wish to do job in govt sector, PWD, Civil construction etc. Good branch definitely but smart and good looking girls and boys avoid this branch. Also offers Brown collar job. . Good for both the sexes.
As a student if you want to build your career in IT engineering, you can do it only if you get into the top colleges of India like IITs, and some NITs however post completion of your degree never join mainstream IT companies (TCS, Infosys, Capgemini, Accenture, Cognizant, IGATE, Amdocs, Mindtree, NIIT Tech, tech Mahindra, Mphasis etc). The real engineering happens in Microsoft, Google, and Oracle where they build platforms and they actually innovate and that is challenging and well paid. There are many other factors like family occupation, parents liking etc but believe me, choose any branch; if you are focused enough any branch can take you to the pinnacle in your career.
Hope you must have got your answer.
All the best!!
