There is not such requirement you can't take whatever suits u.
But as car syllabus has vast humanities portion so taking humanities can help you and build your base

As per the new trend it doesn't really matter as 40 percent engineering and medical background student get selected in this exam.
However for initial preparation at this stage Humanities with those subject which the UPSC provide as optional such as HISTORY ,PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION , POLITICAL SCIENCE , ENGLISH LITERATURE, GEOGRAPHY, must be your preferred choice according to your own taste and capabilities ofcourse.
