Hi.

Both of the engineering stream are pretty good and it all depends upon the candidate and its interest of the stream and if he wishes to get a job in the field of engineering. However, depending on the post you wish to get under "Government Job" will determine if they require a mechanical engineer or electrical engineer. Although, electrical engineers have a tentative edge due to popularity of electrical system but this does not mean mechanical engineers are in any less demand.

Some of the top public sector undertaking (PSUs) companies which hire a large number of mechanical engineers are:

  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
  • Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC)
  • National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC)
  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)
  • Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL)

There are various departments and areas where you can find Electrical vacancies.

  1. DMRC
  2. State Government jobs like in PWD, Electricity board, State Universities, Agriculture board
  3. GATE examination. Get quality jobs in PSU.
  4. ISRO , BARC, DRDO RAC through GATE or separate exam or both.
  5. Contract basis job in state Department works, Central Departments. You need to check separately each Dept website for more information.
  6. SSC Junior Engineer

If you have a further specific query please feel free to comment.

Best of Luck.

Hi there!

Both the branches, electrical and mechanical have high demands in today's world . Both of them are core branches. You can opt for research or even go for government services through both streams.

Electrical engineering is one of the core branches and traditional branches of Engineering. The government jobs for electrical engineering are in State Electricity Board, Indian Railways, BHEL, BSNL, DRDO, Indian Army, Indian Navy, etc.

After B.Tech in Mechanics , you can apply for government job posts in departments like- Indian Air Force, Indian Railways, Indian Army, DRDO, BHEL, Public Works Department(PWD) etc.

so both have equal opportunities. You should follow you passion and take the stream of your choice.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!
