I assume the reason you are asking this question is because you might not know where your interest lies …. so I’ll write considering my experience and current scenario

  1. CSE, at least for next few years is going to have high paying jobs than any core engg. If job is priority blindly go for CS.
  2. Even if you are not good at programming the competition in your batch will drive you. So many platforms are available to showcase your CS skills. (Codechef, topcoder, etc)
  3. Choosing correct branch is a must if you want to go into research. As in jobs it is easy to change stream but difficult in research.
  4. If emerging tech interests you, computer science is going to play a big role.
  5. All the core branches also have research going on but it is slow. So it also depends on your level of patience. In CS you can literally start your own company in a few weeks. But product development or improvement in core branches takes some time, a lot of research and patience.
